Adapun, usulan skema KPR 35 tahun hingga saat ini masih dikaji oleh Direktorat Jenderal Pembiayaan Infrastruktur Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan (DJPI) Kementerian PUPR. Skema tersebut diadopsi dari skema KPR di Jepang yang sukses dengan sistem perumahannya.
Rencana skema KPR 35 tahun juga merupakan langkah Pemerintah secara bertahap menuju zero backlog di 2045. Hingga 2021, angka backlog di Indonesia masih mencapai 12,71 juta unit.
