Aksi sosial ini dilakukan BNI di empat lokasi di Indonesia Timur dengan target 450 mata yang mendapatkan bantuan.
Berdasarkan data yang dihimpun oleh Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) 2014-2016 oleh Perhimpunan Dokter Spesialis Mata Indonesia (Perdami) dan Badan Litbangkes Kementerian Kesehatan menunjukan, angka kebutaan di Indonesia mencapai 3% dan sebanyak 81% disebabkan oleh katarak.

Selain itu, dalam upaya menurunkan prevalensi gangguan penglihatan secara nasional, salah satu upaya program pemerintah sebagaimana tercantum dalam dokumen Roadmap of Visual Impairment Control Program in Indonesia 2017 – 2030 adalah menurunkan prevalensi gangguan penglihatan akibat katarak, dengan tetap melakukan upaya penanggulangan gangguan penglihatan dengan penyebab lainnya.
Corporate Secretary BNI Okki Rushartomo mengatakan, dengan mencermati data penderita katarak tersebut, tentunya telah menjadi tanggung jawab berbagai pihak untuk bersama mencegah terjadinya kebutaan akibat katarak bersama dengan pemerintah.
“Kami menyadari bahwa katarak merupakan gangguan mata yang dapat mempengaruhi kinerja masyarakat. Walau dapat dioperasi, tidak semua orang bisa mendapatkan akses ke fasilitas kesehatan yang baik,” kata Okki.
