Owner Kalaniwood, Suhardi Widayanto mengatakan, peluang bisnis tersebut muncul berawal dari kegemarannya pada olahraga skateboard. Dia menyebut, pada tahun 2016 setelah mengundurkan diri dari tempat kerja sebelumnya, dirinya ingin membuat suatu bisnis.
Kemudian, muncul ide bisnis untuk memanfaatkan skateboard yang tidak terpakai untuk dijadikan produk kerajinan. Dia pun mempelajari secara otodidak hingga dapat membuat produk-produk tersebut.
“Kebetulan saya juga main skateboard dari dulu, ada barang-barang yang dulu saya kumpulin dan ga bisa dipakai. Yaudah dari situ berkreasi, otodidak, kita cari ilmu lewat situ, terus kita iseng iseng posting kalau ada yang mau. Sampai sekarang akhirnya berjalan,” ujar Suhardi.
Pada awalnya, dia berkreasi membuat produk kacamata dan jam tangan. Kemudian, Suhardi juga memanfaatkan limbah kayu untuk membuat anting, cincin, hingga kancing baju.
Adapun, produk yang paling diminati di Kalaniwood adalah kacamata dengan berbagai bentuk hingga antre pre-order.
“Jenis itu kita biasanya kaya kacamata, jam tangan. Nah kan kayu ada limbahnya juga yang kecil-kecil itu biasanya kita pakai untuk bikin anting-anting, cincin, aksesoris kecil-kecil. Kadang kita maklon produk orang lain seperti kancing baju untuk produk lain,” jelasnya.
